Statue
created - c.1703 Coscia delivered the statue 2 August
1703.
Sculptor
- Giulio Coscia During 1703 he received a balance of 80
scudi. This is the only known work of the sculptor.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine Depicted in Carmelite
habit, her right hand indicates the heart, perhaps alluding to
the mystical exchange with Christ. In her left hand is a flowering
branch, perhaps roses which is her traditional attribute.
Mary
Magdalene was a Calced Carmelite mystic, born into a wealthy
Florentine family. She experienced raptures and ecstasies
through much of her life.
