St. Marcellinus - Pope
Papacy began - 30 June 296
Died - 304

Statue created - c.1668-1670
The statue is part of a group of 16 installed between May 1669 and August 1670.

Sculptor - Lazzaro Morelli
Morelli carved this statue as part of a homogeneous group which includes numbers (111) to (115)

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint holds in his hands both the papal tiara and palm of martyrdom. His face is sketched with a short beard and a mustache, which seems to droop on his left side.

Nothing definite has been handed down concerning the activities of this early pope. His papacy began at the time of Emperor Diocletian, who then began to persecute Christians more aggressively.
