St. Eusebius of Vercelli
Born - 2 March 283 in Sardinia
Died - 1 August 371 at Vercelli

Feastday - 2 August

Statue created - c.1668-1670
The statue is part of a group of 16 erected between May 1669 and August 1670

Sculptor - Lazzaro Morelli
The statue was certainly carved by Morelli as it stood comparison with the other eight cited in payments on his behalf.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint is represented in bishop's robes.

Eusebius of Vercelli was a bishop, and along with Athanasius, affirmed the divinity of Jesus against Arianism. He was the first bishop in the West to organize the clergy of his cathedral under a common rule of life, and so is counted as a remote founder of the Canons Regular. For this reason he has a statue on the façade of St John Lateran.
