Statue
Installed - c.1702-1703 On 18 July 1702 Casella undertook
to execute the statue which he delivered on 4 July 1703.
Sculptor
- Annibale Casella He received a payment of 80 scudi.
This is the only known work of the sculptor, who here shows
ability with the rendering of the drapery.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine The saint wrapped in rich
drapery is show in old age with a beard, and no other
attributes except for the palm of martyrdom in his left hand.
Saints
Rufus and Zosimus lived in Antioch and
were martyrs under the persecutions of emperor Trajan. They
were companions of St Ignatius of Antioch during his journey
as a prisoner to Rome where they all were martryed.
