The statue is attributed to Morelli based on similarities
with statues that are known to be from him. The drapery has
a similar effect to his statue of Beneficence on the Tomb
of Clement X

The statue was part of the group of 24 that were erected at
the entrance of the north colonnade between September 1662
and March 1667.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine The saint holds the palm
of martyrdom in his left hand.
St
Vitalis was an early Christian martyr and saint. He was
married to St Valeria, and they were supposedly the parents of
Sts Gervase (69) and Protase (68). At Ravenna, by tradition a
basilica was dedicated to him.
