Statue
Installed - c.1703 On 15 July 1702, Frugoni undertook the
commission and delivered the statue on 6 September 1703.
Sculptor
- Valerio Frugoni In 1702 he received a down payment of
10 scudi, with the balance of 70 scudi in 1703.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine Her right hand holds a
flaming heart, her traditional attribute. Her left hand is
pressed against her habit, perhaps an allusion to
transverberation.
Teresa
was a Carmelite nun, author and prominent Spanish mystic. She
is considered the founder of the Discalced Carmelites. She was
named Doctor of the
Church in 1970 by Paul VI.
