St. Theodora - Martyr
Died - c.120

Feastday - 1 April

Statue created - c.1662-1667
This statue is part of a group of 24 installed above the colonnade entrances from September 1662 to May 1667. The Alexander VII Coat of Arms that is nearby was installed on 1 July 1666.

Sculptor - Jacomo Antonio Fancelli
Fancelli received payments from August to December 1666. His classical forms can also be seen in his virtue stuccos in St Peter's - c.1647

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint has no special attributes.  She is dressed in the classical style that Bernini had elaborated, and holds a palm in the right hand.  The same setting is found in the mirror image St Galla (116).

Likely identified with the St Theodora, who according to the old Roman Martyrology was martyred during the reign of Hadrian, and was the sister of the martyr Hermes.  Due to a lack of historical information, she has been removed from the Roman Martyrology 2004.
