Statue

13 January 1702, Gallesini undertook to execute the statue,
which was finished 26 February 1703.
Sculptor
- Francesco Gallesini He received a down payment of 10
scudi in 1702, the balance of 70 scudi in 1703. The only known
sculpture by Gallesini.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine The statue appears mediocre, but
it's difficult to judge because of the poor state of
preservation.
Sts Mark and
Marcellian were martyrs of the persecution of Diocletian, c.
304, who were buried in the catacombs of Balbina on the Via
Ardeatina. The Roman Martyrology 2004 mentions the
legend that they were twin brothers, by stating "their shared
passion made them brothers".
