St. Felix - Martyr
Died - c.68 AD

Feastday - 19 September

Sculptor - Lorenzo Lironi
He received 80 scudi for the work.  It is probably an early work of Lironi, and is his only known sculpture.

Statue created - c.1702-1703
On 18 July 1702 Lironi signed an agreement for the statue and delivered it on 4 August 1703.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint is covered in large drapery and gestures with his hand to an open book.

The statue reveals a tendency to create movement and expressiveness that is linked to the early models of Baroque sculpture

A tradition identifies Felix with a priest who was martyred during the persecution of Nero, together with the noble matron Constance.  Because of conflicts in the ancient sources, their historical details are uncertain.  Their names have been removed from the 2004 Roman Martyrology.
