St. Paul - Martyr
Died - c.362 in Rome

Feastday - 26 June

Statue created - c.1702-1703
On 11 January 1702, Fucigna agreed to execute the statue by May 1703.

Sculptor - Andrea Fucigna
In 1703 he received 80 scudi for the work.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint is represented as a beardless youth with his right arm raised and an eye to the sky. Dressed in Roman military clothing, his left hand holds the palm of martyrdom.

The two martyrs Paul and John (63) are always venerated together.  A legend states that they were servants of Constantia, daughter of Constantine the Great. Paul, along with his brother John, was beheaded during the reign of Julian the Apostate.

The Roman Martyrology 2004 says, "A basilica was dedicated in their names on the Caelian hill, on Clivus Scauri, which was the titulus of Pammachius the senator.'
