St. Mamas of Caesarea - Martyr
Born - 259
Died - 279

Feastday - 17 August

Statue created - c. 1667-1668
This is part of a group of 16 that were carved between May 1667 and July 1668.

Sculptor - Lazzaro Morelli
Morelli has the most statues attributed to him, with over 45.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint appears beardless and wearing a simple mantle that leaves open the torso. This clothing refers to his status as a hermit. In his right hand he holds the palm of martyrdom.

The young saint was a martyr of Caesarea in Cappadocia during the reign of Emperor Aurelian. The Roman Martyrology states that he lived as a hermit in the Montane forests with the greatest frugality.
