that were installed between August 1670 and March 1673
Sculptor
- Lazzaro Morelli Morelli received 80 scudi for the
statue with the final payment in January 1672. It was
probably begun in December of the previous year.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine The saint is dressed in a
tunic and cloak, and brings the right hand to his chest.
He holds a flowery stick that has been transformed into a lily
branch, an allusion to victory over other pretenders to the
hand of the Virgin Mary.
This story has its origin in the Golden Legend.
St
Joseph was the husband of Mary, and foster father of Jesus.
He appears in the gospels of Matthew and Luke.
