Sculptor
- Giovanni Maria De Rossi He received payments for 5
statues December 1668 and December 1669. The five
statues by De Rossi are: (108), (107), (106), (105), (104)
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine The holy Archbishop of
Constantinople is depicted in bishop's robes, but without the
miter. He holds in his right hand a volume, a symbol of his
many works of theology.
Gregory
was recognized as one of the greatest orators in the Christian
Church.His defense of the doctrine of the Trinity made him one
of the greatest champions of orthodoxy against Arianism. He is
a Doctor of the Church, and his relics are enshrined under the
Altar of Our Lady of Succor in St Peter's.
