- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine The statue
of St Elizabeth is closely allied in terms of iconography
and formality with those of St Clare and St Catherine of Siena.
These show the artist Morelli modeling a wide range of moves
with large expansive folds.
St
Elizabeth was married to King Diniz. Named after her
great-aunt St Elizabeth of Hungary, she dedicated her life to
the poor, establishing orphanages and homeless shelters. She
is shown dressed as a nun, because as a widow she lived as a
Franciscan tertiary at a Poor Clare convent at Coimbra.
