St. Alexander - Bishop
Died - c. mid second century

Feastday - 21 November

Sculptor - workshop of Ercole Ferrata
At the time, Ferrata led the most successful studio in Rome for training sculptors.

Statue created - c.1669-1670
It was one of the group of 16 installed between May 1669 and August 1670.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
Lack of any characteristic attibutes outside the bishop's robe and palm of martyrdom, makes positive identification difficult.

The old Roman Martyrology recalls nine bishops named Alexander. Roman Martyrology 2004 has "At Baccanas on the Via Cassia at the twentieth milestone from Rome, St Alexander, martyr." The place is now an archaeological site near Campagnano di Roma. His date is uncertain, and he was formerly listed as a bishop of an unknown diocese.
