created - c.1669-1670 It was one of the group of 16
installed between May 1669 and August 1670.
Height
- 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine Lack of any characteristic
attibutes outside the bishop's robe and palm of martyrdom,
makes positive identification difficult.
The old
Roman Martyrology recalls nine bishops named Alexander. Roman
Martyrology 2004 has "At Baccanas on the Via Cassia at the
twentieth milestone from Rome, St Alexander, martyr." The
place is now an archaeological site near Campagnano di Roma.
His date is uncertain, and he was formerly listed as a bishop
of an unknown diocese.
